Nordlicht 2023

This past weekend I have been doing a couple of shows (1 – coming soon, 2, 3) from the Nordlicht demoparty in Bremen, Germany. I was also responsible for Stream Audio Direction, and then I have additionally been doing a couple smaller jobs, like recording all the different signals, and supplying a separate audio feed for gasman’s livecoding session (to use the audio for beat-synced effects).

This is what my workstation looked like:

A mixing desk, a microphone, a large screen, a tablet running remote control software, a laptop running recording software, external harddisk, keyboard, mouse, and BLÅHAJ overseeing everything.

(In the background you can also see scamp, who was responsible for combining the video stream from the party, the feeds of several cameras, and my audio stream into the result you could watch at SceneCity TV.)

The last time I was at Nordlicht was 2019, and it was really great to meet all the lovely people again, and to meet many people I had not yet met!

The party itself was pretty cool. A solid number of releases, given the size of the party, and an amazing variety of platforms as well! As someone whose first two computers were both of the Atari variety, I enjoyed the Atari entries a tiny bit more than the others… 😄

I’m already looking forward to the next party I’ll be streaming from, which unfortunately will not be Deadline, but TRSAC (⚠ – seriously, people, get an SSL certificate for your websites, it’s 2023, it’s not that hard!), in lovely Aarhus, Denmark. ❤

I hope to see many of you on site in Denmark, and I know there’s going to be many more of you on IRC (#scenesat on EfNet), Discord, or SceneCity!

Evoke 2023

It’s Yours Truly™ once more, reporting a successful visit of the first demoparty I have been to since the pandemic started: Evoke 2023! I have done a couple of shows (1 – coming soon, 2, 3) from there with all the tasty compos with audio, I was responsible for Stream Audio Direction, and again I also recorded the whole shebang. All in all the usual amount of services SceneSat can provide for your demoparty! Contact us to find out what we can do for you!

This time it was possible for me to sit on the upper part of the balcony; during previous Evokes (2019 and earlier) I sat on the middle level, and let me tell you: hot air really does rise! 😄 (Not pictured above: the fan providing me with a bit of slightly-less-hot air flow.)

All in all it was a great party to visit as first party after the begin of the pandemic. The weather was nice, the people were even nicer, the barbecue was nicest, and the entries were yet nicester! ❤

The next party I will be broadcasting from will be Nordlicht. You should really try to make it there, it’s a very cozy party with a number of special features you do not get anywhere else, and a huge variety of platforms, given the usual number of releases. I can’t recommend it highly enough.

Listen to the music of Assembly Online 2020 (website, Demozoo) right here, right now!

Assembly traditionally has many different music compos so it comes as no surprise that this episode once again has a pretty decent length of more than one and a half hours.

Listen to the music of Function 2020 (website, Demozoo) right here, right now!

Function 2020 brought us some great rock & metal entries by e.g. NecroPolo (alone as well as with friends) and a track with an amazing 70’s vibe by SlySpy!

The next episode will be broadcast on Wednesday, November 25th, 2020 at 🕗 CET/UTC+1. Mark your calenders!

Listen to the music of Novoque 2020 right here in your browser!

As other parties have done before, Evoke has also gone virtual this year, under the name “Novoque.” It had a Dance Music in the Mix compo which was mixed live by Ronny and is the source for many amazing tracks in this episode. Unfortunately, not many demos and 64k intros were released at Novoque so this episode is also a bit shorter than usual. Is that something we will just have to live with in these trying times?

Listen right here to the music of Birdie 2020 and Edison 2020!

Even though this episode has collected music from two parties it does have a lot less music than a normal episode. Birdie 2020 and Edison 2020 are both rather small parties so a lower number of entries than, say, Revision or Evoke is not that surprising after all. 🙂

Listen to the music of Evoke 2010 right here!

Another episode with music from a demoparty from ancient demoscene history, or so it certainly feels. Evoke 2010 is only 10 years in the past but oh, so much has happened in that time…

Anyway. This episode was fun for a number of reasons:

The next episode will be broadcast on Wednesday, July 29th, 2020, at 20:00 🕗 CEST/UTC+2 so mark your calenders accordingly!

reLive episode 9 right here, right now!

For episode 9 I didn’t really have to go far back, it hasn’t even been two months since Revision! However, for once I was enabled to listen to all the entries, without exception; I’m usually missing out on entries for old-school platforms or entries that won’t run on my MacBook for one reason or the other and for which no Youtube rips exist but this time, as I was part of the Revision orga team and we pre-recorded everything and I had access to those recordings, I could listen to them all!

ReLive episode 8 of In Case You Missed It right here!

Episode 8 went even further back than episode 7 which covered Breakpoint 2003. I crossed the millenium border and went all the way back to The Party 1997, my third demoparty. And oh boy, with a tagline of “batteries not included” and a city-wide power outage lasting several hours you can be sure we (large group of people from TLSDS aka Teklords & Smash Designs) had lots of fun, e.g. with this device and a car battery…

In Case You Missed It, #7

A throwback to the distant past… this was meant to be the first of a “Specials” series that I wanted to do only about 3–4 times a year but there probably won’t be many new parties for the foreseeable future, except Revision Online. So, I guess this is our life now: reliving the music of parties from a long time ago…

And the series starts off with the music of Breakpoint 2003! The very first Breakpoint, in an old military depot on a mountain near Bingen, it was fucking cold, the hall had no insulation because it wasn’t a hall, it was a hangar, and airplanes and tanks and other military vehicles don’t cry when it’s cold so a hangar is all they got and that’s all we got, plus 40 kW of heating.

What we also got was a shitload of entries! Listen for yourself:

reLive the episode right here!

I hope you enjoyed this episode as much as I did. The next episode will be on wednesday, April 29th, 20:00 CEST, as usual. Mark your calenders!
