In Case You Missed It, #8

ReLive episode 8 of In Case You Missed It right here!

Episode 8 went even further back than episode 7 which covered Breakpoint 2003. I crossed the millenium border and went all the way back to The Party 1997, my third demoparty. And oh boy, with a tagline of “batteries not included” and a city-wide power outage lasting several hours you can be sure we (large group of people from TLSDS aka Teklords & Smash Designs) had lots of fun, e.g. with this device and a car battery…

And preparation-wise this party also was unlike any other. In 1997, nobody (well, only figuratively nobody) had yet heard of MP3s or any other kind of lossy audio compression so there was pretty much no file that I could simply use as distributed, no: every file (mostly FastTracker II .xm and Protracker .mod files) had to be rendered. Most of them had to be ripped from binaries or custom package files for which I had to run some ancient MOD ripper software (actually written by a guy I used to hang out and party with 20 years ago when I lived in Berlin) in DOSBox! And I had to use even more DOSBox to capture the soundtracks of all PC entries that did not somehow include a module file. It was arduous but I think I did get the soundtracks of a lot more entries that way… maybe I should really look into getting a real Windows machine so I can also run current PC entries and don’t have to rely on Youtube captures for those…

Anyway. 37 new tracks were added to SceneSat’s rotation, and I have already started preparing for the next episode which is scheduled for wednesday, May 27, 20:00 🕗 CEST!
